Description: Current and former UVa Assistant coaches Matt Pell, Jim
Stanec, and Jim Harshaw will direct this camp designed to teach
techniques that will help you become a successful high school wrestler.
Techniques covered will include position drills, basic and advanced
takedowns with set-ups, a variety of finishes, tilts, turns, cradles,
leg riding, and top and bottom basics. Sessions will also consist of
resistance training, drills, live wrestling, and conditioning.
Techniques will be adapted to the skill level of the group on a whole
and, where possible, the group will be divided into smaller groups
based on experience.
Staff Includes:
Matt Pell: Matt is the current assistant
wrestling coach for UVa. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier and 2x
All-American for the University of Missouri at 184 and 165 pounds. In
2007, Pell took third place at the NCAA Championships and earned the
Manuel Gorrarian Award for most pins in the least accumulative time.
Pell won the 163-pound title at the 2005 University National Team
Trials, then moved on to the Pan American Championships in Guatemala,
where he claimed the bronze medal. He also was a 2006 World Trials
qualifier and a 2008 Olympic Trials qualifier.
Jim Harshaw: Charlottesville Wrestling Club Director, Former Head
and Assistant Coach for Slippery Rock University and UVa, 1999 Division
I All-American for UVa.
Jim Stanec: Former UVa Head Assistant Wrestling Coach, 2001 Division I All-American for Cornell University.
Ross Gitomer: 2008 NCAA qualifier for UVa at 125 lbs. Ross was a
Prep. National Champion for Blair Academy and a High School National
Finalist.
Additional staff may include current UVa coaches and wrestlers.
